Proofreading & Copy-Editing for Authors:
Packages & Prices
Proofreading and copy-editing services are a great investment for any author, regardless of whether you’re self-publishing or submitting your manuscript to mainstream publishers.
An error-free manuscript can be the difference between a literary agent/publisher investing quality time in looking at your work, and throwing it on the rejection pile. Regardless of how impressive your content is, if it’s strewn with typos, grammatical errors, and inconsistencies, they’ll stand out a mile – and after all that time and effort writing your book, that’s really not the impression you want to make.
If you’re self-publishing on Kindle and/or in print, then proofreading isn’t something which should be dealt with lightly either. Have you seen those reader reviews on Amazon which say… ‘this book was really promising but by thirty pages in, I couldn’t stop focusing on the typos instead of the content, so I gave up…’?
So if you want to stand out from the competition, give your book the best possible chance of being a success, and you’re looking for an experienced proofreader and/or copy-editor who has been spotting and slaying typos for 20+ years, then please get in touch.
Proofreading and/or Copy-Editing Rates:
One-off proofreads/edits start at £12 per 1,000 words for books up to and including 30,000 words.
For longer works, please contact me to arrange a more bespoke quotation, based on a sample of your work.
The Proofreading /Copy-editing Process
Once my proofreading and/or copy-editing work is complete, I will send you a tracked version of your manuscript (so you can see the changes I’ve made and accept/reject them individually) and a clean version (without all the messy red lines, so you can see what the final manuscript looks like. This ensures you always retain full control over your finished manuscript.
- My schedule is usually continually full for 4-6 weeks in advance, so if you have a proofreading requirement coming up in the not-so-distant future, please get in touch as soon as you can.
- I don’t promise to turn around work in 24/48 hours, nor will I proofread your book in one sitting; rather, I focus on a few thousand words every day so you can expect the best results.
